Description

RAFO is a non-profit activity, entertainment and learning center for francophones and francophiles aged 50 and over in the Ottawa region, located in Orléans. By offering diversified and targeted social, cultural, recreational and educational programming (virtual and hybrid), RAFO fulfills its mission to promote active living and personal development.

In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, RAFO is looking for a dynamic person who loves to cook and who is committed to passing on their knowledge to seniors, volunteers and an increasingly diverse and inclusive clientele. The RAFO, which maintains its own vegetable garden, wishes to develop its kitchen in a more ecological environment, continue to establish healthy lifestyle habits among its clientele and ensure the increased participation of the French-speaking community in the development of a community kitchen.

Reporting to RAFO's General Manager and supported by the Kitchen Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the brigade of volunteers and kitchen trainees in the preparation of meals, and ensuring the smooth running of kitchen operations.

Education Requirements

College training in culinary arts, nutrition and/or equivalent experience

Responsabilities

The incumbent is expected to perform the duties and responsibilities assigned to him/her, such as, but not limited to:

This person ensures the smooth operation of the RAFO kitchen service.

1. Supervise kitchen operations:
a. Manages the work of volunteers in setting up, preparing meals and serving;
b. Support the kitchen manager in preparing menus (healthy and varied), determining portions, assessing food requirements, respecting the established budget;
c. Assist with monthly shopping according to kitchen needs;
d. Receive, place and rotate orders;
e. Help manage food stocks to avoid food waste;
f. Prepare food for weekly dinners, monthly lunches and special events at RAFO.
g. Occasionally provide demonstrations and training to help the kitchen brigade perform better; show members how to eat better; teach them how to cook and stay socially active;
h. Support the team in developing a community kitchen.

2. Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations:
a. Ensure that the entire kitchen team, both employees and volunteers, respects RAFO's volunteer philosophy and complies with all applicable health and safety regulations and procedures;
b. Discuss any kitchen or training needs with general management and the kitchen manager;
c. Ensure cleanliness of kitchen and equipment;
d. Perform other related duties as required.

Work Hours

20-30 hours per week
Part-time - contractual with possibility of extension or permanent position
