Description

RAFO is a non-profit activity, entertainment and learning center for francophone retirees aged 50 and over in the Ottawa area (mainly from Orleans, Navan, Sarsfield and even more rural Eastern Ontario municipalities, such as Embrun, Rockland, Casselman, etc.). By offering diversified and targeted social, cultural, recreational and educational programming (virtual and hybrid), RAFO fulfills its mission to promote active living and personal fulfillment among French-speaking retirees.

RAFO is looking for a reliable person to fill the position of Kitchen Manager. This is a one-year position starting January 9, 2023, with an extension after evaluation.

Reporting to RAFO's General Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the operations of the active living center's kitchen.

Education Requirements

Post-secondary diploma in culinary arts, nutrition, management, accounting, administration OR a combination of relevant education, training and experience (at least three years);

Desired Experience

Management experience (an asset)
Experience in event organization would be an asset;

Responsabilities

The incumbent will perform assigned duties and responsibilities, such as, but not limited to:
1. Organize kitchen - inventory, menus :
a. Evaluate and ensure rotation of kitchen operations inventory;
b. Make purchases online or in person (if necessary) while respecting allocated budgets;
c. Draw up menus (healthy and varied), determine portions, assess food requirements and meal costs.

2.set up day kitchen, take-out and catering services:
a. Monitor prices, look for bargains with good value for money, and respect kitchen budgets;
b.Maintain and closely manage inventory of food, supplies and equipment and ensure efficient use, avoiding loss, theft and/or waste;
c.Make recommendations on the reasonable cost of dishes and menus.

3. Supervise kitchen operations :
a. Collaborate with Volunteer Coordination and General Management to establish volunteer and staff work schedules, duties and responsibilities to ensure smooth kitchen operations;
b. Support volunteer teams with coordination, supervision and logistics for special projects and events at RAFO (such as supper dances, monthly luncheons, the Fête de la St-Jean, the Foire d'information avec repas and all other events related to the kitchen), and for events contracted by our clients (organizations or private clients who rent our facilities).
c. Ensure the cleanliness and proper functioning of the kitchens and equipment for volunteer teams, employees or caterers from outside the RAFO who need to use the premises.
d. Perform any other duties that may be required by General Management in connection with the kitchen, bar, equipment and community garden.

4.support the general management in the development and implementation of a community kitchen service and cooking workshops for our members, in collaboration with the chef, the kitchen brigade and our partners;

5.support the team in the execution of catering services and/or find alternatives for room rentals;

6.at all times, ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, and oversee the training of kitchen human resources:
a.Ensure, with volunteer coordination, that volunteers respect RAFO's volunteer philosophy at all times in the kitchen and that they comply with current health, safety and security regulations/procedures;
b.Discuss the kitchen's needs with general management, and set up a skills assessment for each employee or volunteer, in order to properly plan their training for the smooth running of the kitchen;
c.Prepare, organize and/or lead training workshops for our kitchen brigade, volunteers, and possibly members, in order to better accomplish kitchen operations and recruit new volunteers;
d.Perform other related tasks as required in connection with occupational health and safety in the kitchen.

Skills

Excellent knowledge of accounting, costing and other management and/or business skills;
Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines;
Ability to work as part of a team;
Ability to establish excellent interpersonal relations;
Excellent command of written and spoken French and English;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Photoshop, etc;
Self-reliance, resourcefulness;
Attention to detail.

Means of transport: essential
Working language: French and intermediate English essential.
Criminal record check required (working with seniors).

Work Hours

35 hours per week
Full time - contract for maternity leave replacement, with possibility of extension or change of position
