Second Career Program

You can acquire new skills for jobs in demand, and receive financial support through the Second Career program.

To be eligible, you must :

  • Have been laid off
  • Be unemployed or receive unemployment insurance
  • Work in a declining profession or trade
  • Be a resident of Ontario

Program Benefits

This program provides:

  • Access to the necessary training leading to a high-demand occupation in Ontario
  • Financial support (up to $28,000) to help pay for:

    • tuition
    • books
    • manuals, workbooks or other instructional costs
    • transportation
    • basic living allowance (maximum $410 per week)
    • child care

Additional support may be available to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities, dependent care, costs of living away from home and academic upgrading. 

You can also apply for this program if you are receiving Employment Insurance, or have in the past.
