CSEPR Job Fairs attrace 750 visitors

Overall, Employment Services Centre (CSEPR) officials were pleased with the results of the seventh edition of the Job Fair, despite labour scarcity and a difficult market reality.

Nearly 750 people around Prescott-Russell visited the seventh edition of the Job Fair, organized by the Employment Services Centre, held over two weekends in Hawkesbury and in Rockland. A total of 68 employers participated in both events. The Job Fair was held in Hawkesbury on Satruday, March 17 and in Rockland on Satruday, March 24.

"The overall number of visitors at the event is certainly a reflection of the trend in our current market," said André Roy, Executive Director for the Employment Services Centre. "However, with more than 1150 positions available, we had hoped to alleviate this trend." He went on to explain that it is, however, no surprise - labour is scarce in large centres, including Prescott-Russell.

"In a certain way, these results are a confirmation of what we have seen for the last year or so," added Roy. "However, we are proud of the results of the fair since both job seekers and employers alike were very satisfied." Some employers mentioned having already found candidates for very specific positions. This year, as in previous years, several job seekers were hired on the spot, with an expectation for more to be hired within the coming weeks.

The CSEPR holds annual job fairs, but also offers other services throughout the year to help employers with their hiring needs and to help candidates with their job search. The CSEPR is funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development for the Employment Ontario program, the Ministry of Community and Social Services for the Ontario Disability Support Program, as well as the Ontario Works program from the United Counties of Prescott-Russell.
